March Madness

March Madness is upon us Hawes Ward.

Just like basketball players we have our own roles in the ward team and each of them is vital to the success of our ward in bringing each of us closer to the Savior

"Sometimes a player's greatest challenge is coming to grips with his role on the team" ~Scottie Pippen who often played second fiddle to Michael Jordan.

"Glue guys aren't superstars. They're not the No. 1 option. They just do things only coaches really appreciate. The stars get the headlines, but glue guys help you get in the winner's circle. I don't think you can win without having that kind of player." Dick Vitale

One calling is not considered more important than another. Each has its duties and responsibilities that are vital to the progress and advancement of the Lord's work. Not only do callings give members of the LDS Church a chance to serve one another but they are an opportunity to personally learn and grow. The Apostle Paul taught this truth in Romans 12:3-5:

"For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

"For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:

"So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another."

Review

Our topic  was "How can relying on the Saviors grace help me become a better teacher".

We first discussed that this "grace" is an enabling and strengthening power from The Lord that can help us in all things. The Saviors grace can even help us turn our weaknesses to strengths. We then discussed our responsibility to teach the gospel to others. That as members of Christ's true church we have promised to hold up his light and share it with the world.

We discussed that we need to obtain his word before we seek to declare his word, then we need to pray for help as we seek to share with others, and be ready to act on the promptings we are given. We can share the Savior's light not only by discussing the gospel with others, but also in how we live our lives each day. The choices we make and the attitudes we have, especially as we deal with challenges, can set an example for others.

The youth were challenged to think of an experience they've had that has strengthened their faith, and then to think of a person that could be helped by hearing that experience, and to share it with them.

This week we will discuss   "How can I use the words of living prophets and apostles to strengthen my faith in the Atonement of Jesus Christ"?

Like the prophets of old, prophets and apostles today testify of Jesus Christ and invite all to partake of His Atonement. They are called to be “special witnesses” of Jesus Christ.

The Holy Ghost bears witness when living prophets and apostles testify of Christ, and we are blessed when we live by their teachings.

“Behold I say unto you that ye shall have hope through the atonement of Christ” (Moroni 7:41).

The outlines in this unit will help the youth learn how to search the scriptures and words of the living prophets to strengthen their faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement. You will have the opportunity to help the youth gain stronger testimonies of the Atonement and more confidence in their ability to teach it to others. Encourage them to ask questions about what they are learning, to seek to learn more, and to share with others what they discover.

Outline: How can I use comparisons to teach others about the Atonement?

We discussed comparisons used in the scriptures relating to the Atonement and how they help us to better understand the principles associated with the Savior's sacrifice.  Class members used comparisons from scriptures and conference talks to teach principles to each other in class.

The challenge was given for class members to look for comparisons and examples in the world around them that could help them and others to understand the Atonement and related principles and come to class next week ready to teach that comparison in class.  The following phrase was given to help them as they fill in the blanks: ______________ is like _____________.

Lesson 10: “This Is My Voice unto All”

Many of the revelations given in the Doctrine and Covenants were given to individuals. Although the counsel in the revelations was specific to individuals who lived many years ago, much of this counsel applies to us today. In July 1830, the Lord directed a revelation to Emma Smith, the wife of the Prophet Joseph Smith (D&C 25).

Read D&C 25:5, 14. What are some ways that husbands and wives can help each other in times of difficulty? How can spouses show that they delight in each other?

Read the following passages about the Lord’s counsel to avoid pride:

Warnings to avoid pride: D&C 23:1; 25:14; 38:39; 90:17; 98:19–20
